Sewing 101

Rachel has been begging me to do a sewing project with her. Sewing is one of my least favorite things. One, I don't know how to sew. Two, I don't know how to follow a pattern. Three, I don't have a lot of patience when things go wrong. And somehow when I attempt to sew...what can go wrong does go wrong. But I decided that sewing is very practical to know and I couldn't deprive Rachel of learning how to sew, especially since she was SO excited. Her enthusiasm wore off on me and I was even a little excited to start our project. We went to Walmart (Yes, I HATE shopping at Walmart but it was one of the few options here) We found some fabric on clearance for $1 a yard. I can't beat that! Rachel picked out a pattern for a cute halter dress.
We managed to get the pattern cut out. Luckily, she chose a super simple pattern that even I could follow. But then the troubles began. The stupid sewing machine wouldn't cooperate. But we finally figured everything out. (My husband had to step in and help. haha) Rachel did most of the sewing. She learned howto cut out a pattern and pin everything. 3 hours later...
We had a finished project.
Rachel modeling her finished dress. It's still too cold to wear it outside but she did take it to school to show her best friend. I am so proud of her.

Aaahhh...success!!

I had to run some errands after we got done. While I was gone, Bill made Ellie a matching dress. I guess Rachel gets her talent for sewing from her dad's secret ability to sew. HAHA!

That's awesome! Rachel is such a talented girl, she blows me away. Reading that Bill made a dress for Ellie made me laugh, but good for him...haha! :)

I know how you feel I married a man that can do everything better than me including sewing, knitting, and French braids. The dress looks cute!!

I really wish I knew how to sew! I even have a machine, but have no idea how to use it. That's great for Rachel to learn and even cooler that Bill knows how! :)
