Today was the kids last day of school before beginning their Spring Break. Rachel came home in tears because she has had a student teacher in her class for the past few months and is graduating, so today was her last day. Rachel just loved her. Then their bus driver informed them that she is no longer going to be their bus driver because she got a different route. Rachel doesn't handle change very well and she gets attached to people. Rachel said, "This is the worst day ever. "
Rachel loves going on walks and I thought it would be fun to take the kids to the park to lift her spirits and to start Spring break off right.
This is the beginning of our walk.
We were about a mile into our walk when Rachel decided to have a race with Maverick (our dog), she was holding his leash while running, the sidewalk had a lot of gravel on it, & Maverick decided to cut behind her pulling on the leash making her slip and fall right on the side of her face. I ran over to help her up, and saw the two gashes in her head where she must have landed directly on some rocks. I had NOTHING with me. I had no water, no car, no wallet...
I had a long sleeve shirt on and used that to put pressure on her head.
I start going through my head...husband is at work...should we try to walk home? Jared told me to call an ambulance. haha (He was very concerned about his sister) Then I remembered my brother Kyle didn't have to work today. THANK GOODNESS. I called, Alysa answered the phone "Umm...can you come pick us up, and bring some wet paper towels & some ice..."
They were more than willing to come rescue us. We all piled into their Honda, drove us back to the house so I could clean it out and really get a look at it. I already knew it looked like it needed stitches. I thought maybe I could use some liquid band aid or glue. But I asked Kyle for a second opinion and he basically looked at me like I was insane and told me to take her. I know...I know...
He also wanted to make sure she got some Ibuprofen before she went. What a good Uncle.

This is Rachel waiting for the doctor...she was pretty scared and didn't want anything to do with getting stitches. Once again she stated, "This is the worst day ever!"
I thought Rachel deserved a little treat for being so tough. Of course, we went to our favorite yogurt place! Now she is all smiles! She started bragging about being the first kid to get stitches in our family and couldn't wait to tell her friends at school.
In the life of an 8 year old, this was the worst day ever!
Hoping tomorrow is one of the best days ever!

Poor Rachel! Sweet little doll. I hope that tomorrow really is the best day ever. Give her an extra hug from me.
